Next Up...

I thought I'd give you a heads up on some of the items you can expect to see in the next few weeks.  (Or months.  We'll see how cooperative baby #3 is with Five to Nine.)  I found these two beauties last weekend:

Aren't they fabulous??  The top one is a massive king headboard that is just delightful, and the bottom is an amazing mirror that is HUGE.  I mean we're talking over five feet tall.  I love them both and am frantically trying to find a place for them in my house.  I believe the king headboard is going to be made into a bench for my front room, and the mirror is going to go above my buffet.  Maybe.  I still need to do some more measuring and thinking.  At any rate, that's good news because the mirror and the bench that I already have now will be going up for sale soon.  Here's a sneak peak at what they look like:

They aren't for sale yet.  It stresses me out big time to have empty spaces in my house, and if they were to sell quickly (wishful thinking, I know) and then I had two huge holes, and then I had a baby!  Man.  That might send me over the top.  I know.  I'm weird.  At any rate, as soon as I can get the other mirror painted and hung that will go up for sale.  The bench is another story.  We all know Mr. Five to Nine's track record with making benches (remember the one that took a YEAR???), and since I have a mile-long list of honey dos (including hanging two chandeliers, which he HATES doing probably more than getting cavities filled), it's not looking promising to get the bench done any time soon.  But maybe.  Who knows.  Anyway, I'll keep you posted on the mirror.  I'm not sure on the price yet.

Before & After: Another Black Bench

Remember this beauty?  The one that has been sitting on my porch for the last YEAR???
I never thought I'd say this, but now I'm actually glad that it took Mr. Five to Nine so long to make it.  Otherwise I would have sold it and then I wouldn't have it for my boys' room.
 Here's the after:

It's the perfect accent for this room.
My boys and I read bedtime stories on it at night.  It helps keep them contained and separated so they don't fight.  Well, they still fight.  But it keeps the fighting to a minimum.  Kind of.
And because I have worked my tail off to get this room done, here's a peak at the rest of it:
This bookcase was a big splurge, but I love it!  It's the perfect accent piece for this room.

Want a run down on where I got everything?

-Wall color: It is FANTASTIC.  I struggle with grays, but this one couldn't be more perfect.  It's called SLATE by Restoration Hardware and it is spectacular.  It's actually a muddier, darker gray than it looks in the pictures.
-Headboards & footboards: Furniture Plus (LOVE them!  They were here in less than two weeks and are very sturdy and affordable.)
-Bookcase: Cost Plus World Market
-Striped bedding & throws: Target or West Elm (Target is cheaper and they are great quality.  We've had them a couple months and believe me, my two crazy boys have put them to the test.  They wash really well, too.)
 -Chalkboards: Home Goods
-Birthday plaques: Homemade (The numbers came from Hobby Lobby.  The tacks are roofing tacks from Home Depot.)
-Subway art: Marshalls
-Pillows on bench: Homemade  (Don't look closely.  I'm no seamstress.  The fabric came from Hobby Lobby.)
-Chevron pillow on bed: Etsy store.  I can't remember which one, but I have a friend who now sells the exact same thing.  They are very affordable and well made.  Visit her here: Etsy by Betsey.  And she's local here in Mesa, so if you're stopping by to pick up a chalkboard she's just around the corner.
(I especially love her table runners and custom minky baby blankets.  Baby #3 needs one, don't you think?)
-Industrial pillows on bed: Restoration Hardware (Another splurge, but I could not find them anywhere else.  And they are just so charming.  I couldn't help myself.  I tend to spend a little more than normal when I'm nesting.  Mr. Five to Nine LOVES it, let me tell you.)
-Clock: Target (It is now discontinued which is such a shame.  My boys broke the hands awhile back, but I haven't been able to get rid of it because I love the style.)
-Initials and hanging thing above bed (Yes, that's the technical term for it.  I have no idea what it's actually called.  Hanging thing works for me.): Hobby Lobby
-Moulding work (I.e.: King crown, base, window casing, & closet): Mr. Five to Nine & our friend over at A.B. Davis (Mr. Five to Nine is not for hire.  Sorry.  I can barely coerce him into getting my projects done.  But A.B. Davis is and they are superb.  The head carpenter is a good friend of ours and does amazing work.  He fast, efficient, excellent, and affordable.)

Oh, I almost forgot!  Just for fun, here's the room before:

I spent way too much on it, but it was worth it!  Now my boys will have a room they can grow in to for years to come.

Before & After: Another Black Bench

Wow.  Life has been a little crazy, as usual.  Sorry for the huge delay in getting this posted.  Here's the before:
 And here's the after:
I'm loving how it looks with the magnet board and the plantation shutters.

For sale is a black distressed bench that measures 66" wide x 18" deep x 42" high.  This striking handcrafted piece was artfully constructed by a local artisan out of a repurposed queen headboard.  It is extremely solid and sturdy, and can hold over 500 pounds of weight.  It was painted an eggshell raven's black and was then moderately distressed.  $255.  Local pick up in Mesa, AZ only.  Cash or credit/debit* accepted.  Email fivetoninefurnishings@yahoo.com.

Sneak Peak: Bench Update

Mr. Five to Nine stayed true to his word and built not one but TWO! benches yesterday.  I have been swamped getting ready for a church youth conference that I am partially in charge of/helping with and just could not get them caulked and painted today.  I'm hoping to crank them out tomorrow morning so that they can dry all day Wednesday and then I can distress them Thursday.  That's the plan, anyway.  But I make no promises.
Bench #1 Before:
 During:
 Bench #2 During:
(I forgot to take a picture of just the headboard before Mr. Five to Nine started building, but you get the idea.)

As I said yesterday, bench #1 probably isn't going to be for sale.  Not yet, anyway.  But I'm so tickled with how it's turning out that I couldn't help but share.  I'll post (good) after shots of it in my boys' room so you can get the full effect.  Bench #2 will be up for sale as soon as it is done.  I'm not sure exactly how much it will be.  I do know for certain that it will be a black distressed one.  I'm thinking somewhere in the $300 range, but possibly less if all goes as planned and I don't have to spend an exorbitant amount of time on it.  Anyway, there's the update and plan.  Tune in tomorrow (I hope!) to see the final products.

*Post edit: I'm pretty sure I'm going to have enough paint left in the sprayer to crank out one other piece of furniture, so this FULL headboard and footboard is probably going to get a makeover tomorrow, too.  I may or may not add some scroll work on it.  It feels a little too masculine to do much to it, but I'll play around with it and see.  Anyway, it will also be painted black and then distressed.  Again, I'm not sure on the exact price, but it will be somewhere around $115.  More if I add scroll work and less if it doesn't give me problems and I don't add any scrolls to it.

Sneak Peak

Remember when I said it takes me six months of begging, pleading, and bribing to get Mr. Five to Nine to build a bench?  I lied.  At least, in this case.  This headboard has been sitting on my back porch for almost a year.  As in 12 months. I know.  Is that ridiculous or what? Well, since baby #3 is on the way in less than four weeks (Ah!!!  I still have so much to do before then...), child #1 and child #2 moved into the same room together.  And since I have a bench in just about every room in my house except the bathrooms, what better way to finish off their newly-decorated bedroom than with a bench!  So here you have it.  The next project over here at Five to Nine.  May I present the headboard that has been worth a year-long wait:

It's fabulous, no?  I'm really excited to see this one come together.  Mr. Rive to Nine has it 75% built, and he promised me he will finish it tomorrow along with another bench.  We'll see.  I'm not getting my hopes up.  At any rate, I'm hoping to have before and after pictures within the next few days of this bench as well as another one.  This one (probably) isn't going to be for sale.  Yet.  (You long-time readers know that pretty much everything goes up for sale eventually.  What can I say?  I get bored with things easily.  It's a horrible trait.)  Check back tomorrow for an update and Tuesday (I hope, I hope, I hope!!) for two new black distressed benches.
