Before & During: Hutch & TV Stand

Well, I lied. I folded and painted the TV stand black after all. There were a bunch of reasons why and I'll spare you the boring details, but it boiled down to black again. I promise someday I will get the courage to paint a bigger piece a fun color. For now I'm a wimp and am sticking to what I know sells. Boring, I know. Anyway, Mr. Five to Nine ended up working most of the weekend, so we didn't get it sprayed until today. Here's the before:

Awful pictures, I know, but you get the idea. I did this one a semi-gloss black and plan on lightly distressing it tomorrow. I went ahead and kept the original hardware on this one but painted it black.
And in other news, look at this beauty I ran across this weekend during my furniture hunting:

Again, bad pictures but we painted this one black as well. For the backing we did a mustard yellow damask print instead of wainscoting. This piece will also get a light distressing tomorrow.

And since we had a bit of paint left in the sprayer, we gave this little hexagon table a couple of quick coats of black semi-gloss. It will also get a light distressing tomorrow.

If my kids cooperate and all goes as planned, I will post some after pictures tomorrow. The TV stand will be $350, the night stand will be $35, and I'm still not sure on pricing for the hutch yet.

Another Sneak Peak

Sorry it's been quiet around here the past few days! This past weekend I was really involved planning and helping with my high school reunion, so I had to take a small hiatus from painting, fauxtiquing, and blogging. I'm rested up and ready to go again, though. Here are a few more sneak peaks of what will be available THIS WEEKEND. Ah! Only four more days until fauxtique time!

Oh man, I love these shutters. I think I'd have a pair of shutters in every room of my house if I had room. But I don't. Too bad. My favorite, of course, is the crystal knob. What a surprise, I'm sure.

This piece of furniture is SOLID! I lug around kids and furniture all day and am able to move pretty much anything on my own. This one, though, certainly gave me a run for my money! It doesn't look it, but it's a sturdy, solid beast to carry. Good thing it's so dang cute!

Solid Wood Pier One Night Stand

Here's a little before and during for you. Mr. Five to Nine and I grabbed our new paint sprayer (Remind me again why I waited two years to buy one of these??? It is life changing, and I'm not just being melodramatic!) to knock out a few benches, and lucky for us we had leftover paint. So, this little night stand got a quick makeover. It's still drying and waiting to be distressed. I'm probably going to keep the original hardware on it. You can see it if you look closely in the bottom right-hand corner. Price will be around $75. And of course it will be distressed. This one will be just very lightly distressed, though.

Remember this bench?

Here it is all sprayed and ready to be distressed! Not sure on the price of this one, yet. I'm thinking I might need to switch out the bench in my front room for this one. Don't worry. They will both be for sale at the fauxtique. Hopefully I will end up with one of them so I don't have a big blank spot in my front room. I hate blank spots in my house.

This doesn't look like much now, but I guarantee it will be an excellent magnetic chalkboard door. And of course it will have scrolls, crystal knobs, magnets, yadda, yadda, yadda... Price will be around $135.

Remember this bench? Mr. Five to Nine gave it a seat, a scroll, and a paint job, and it's starting to look quite chic. Of course it still needs to be distressed. Not sure on pricing for this one yet. I'll show a picture of it all done with a price probably tomorrow. Or maybe later today. We'll see how well my kids cooperate.

These frames aren't much to look at now, but I promise they will look pretty amazing soon. The pink one will be a magnet board and will have scrolls in the upper corners.

This oval one is a scrolly mirror. Price will be around $65.

And this black one will be a magnetic board complete with several magnets. Recently I realized I haven't ever done just straight magnet boards. I've done chalkboards and magnetic chalkboards but never just a magnet board. For the fauxtique I plan on having al least three. We will see how well (or not) they sell. If they sell well, I'll do more.

A Few Announcements & Some Sneak Peaks

Postings have been sparse around here lately. Have you noticed? I've been busy incubating. Yep. Time for another baby over here at Five to Nine! Which is wonderful and exciting, but not very good for being productive and efficient. Normally I wouldn't mind so much, but we do have the fauxtique coming up. Did you remember? It's Saturday, April 28th from 8 a.m.-noon at my house. (Address will be posted a couple days before the event.) So in the meantime I'm trying to kick my rear in gear. Thank goodness for Mr. Five to Nine. He's cranked out two benches today and counting. Remember this headboard and footboard set?

Here it is halfway done:

And here it is all done. Well, built. I still need to prime, paint, and distress. I think this one would look great on a front porch with the house number in the middle of that scroll insert.

Mr. Five to Nine finished that one off, too. Ditto on priming, painting, and distressing. I'm thinking of adding a scroll to the top in the middle. We'll see.

So, in an effort to prepare for the fauxtique I'm going to cut down postings. It usually takes me quite a long time to measure, stage, take pictures, upload, write a posting, yadda, yadda, yadda. Rather than putting all that effort into posting I'm going to focus my efforts on cranking out as much as possible in the next 19 days. I may post a few things here and there, but for the most part I'm just going to show a few sneak peaks a week so you can see what will be available for the fauxtique. For instance, these shutters will be up for grabs:

They are a creamy white and have been lightly distressed. They will have a fantastic door knob with a crystal knob in the middle of it. Price will be around $75.

Want to see what Mr. Five to Nine came home with the other day?

The man has been trained well! This is going to be the next bench over here at Five to Nine. It reminds me a lot of this one that I still haven't been able to part with:

I've tried and tried to figure out where in my house I can put another bench, but I guess three is my limit. Too bad for me, but lucky for all those of you out there who have been asking when the next black bench is coming. Yep, you heard right. This next one is going to be black distressed with arm rests and finials at the end. I have no idea when it will be done; that depends entirely on Mr. Five to Nine because he's the carpenter. (I can get it primed, caulked, painted, and distressed in less than two hours...) I will try to move the process along. Let's shoot for next week some time, shall we? I'm not sure what the price is going to be... Somewhere in the three hundreds. We'll see how good (or bad) it turns out. And check back in the next few days for an update. I hope I have something more to show you... (Fingers crossed.)

Seussical Part Two

Don't those knobs remind you of a Dr. Seuss book? Anyway, the bench is coming along slower than I'd like because it took me quite awhile to fill in and caulk. But now it's ready to be painted. I'm going to go and work on it now so I think it will be done by tomorrow. (Fingers crossed.) Check back tomorrow afternoon for a finished product. (I hope.)

I have had this headboard and footboard sitting on my back porch for months. Literally. I've been trying to talk Mr. Five to Nine into building it forever, and then I got side tracked with my benches inside. My pile of projects has finally dwindled enough and Mr. Five to Nine has a free day (amazingly!). Lucky, lucky me! I cannot tell you how excited I am for this bench. It is going to be amazing!! See for yourself:

The huge knobs along with Mr. Five to Nine's amazing bench-building skills are going to make for one fantastic bench. He's almost done building it now. I'll post a during picture when he's done. Then my job begins. It's going to take a decent amount of caulking and wood filling before I can prime and paint. See that funky looking shell design at the top? It's going to be replaced with a scroll like the one over these shutters:

I'll keep you posted. It will definitely be done within a few days.

I have it caulked. Next it needs a few layers of Kilz and then it will be ready to paint. It should be done by later today. Check back tomorrow morning for pictures. The plan is creamy white with light distressing.
