Before and After: Black Distressed Hutch with Mustard Damask Backing

Man, oh man, oh man! I can't believe this piece is FINALLY done. I think I first started posting about it over a month ago. Wow. Usually my OCD nature kicks in to full overdrive when I'm working on a large piece like this, and I crank it out in a few days. The 115 degree temperatures, two crazy boys who want to be constantly entertained, a bulging pregnant belly, never-ending morning sickness, and several vacations later, though, this piece is just now getting done. I've certainly hit several hiccups along the way, including--but not limited to--a four year-old who thought it would be fun to take a hammer to the glass that I had cut out for this piece. That was a fun day at our house. His ears may or may not still be ringing from my yelling. :) (Thank you increased pregnancy hormones that make me go slightly ballistic over silly things like $40 worth of ruined glass that I just picked up from the store and had special-ordered.) At any rate, enough blabbing and whining and on to the main event. Here's the before. (Well, it's more like the during. I forgot to take a shot of it until it had already gotten one coat of paint. Oh well.)

And here's the after:
Can I tell you how much I'm loving this piece?? It may be one of my new favorites! The original hardware seemed so perfect on it that I couldn't bear to change it. I'm glad I didn't.

And this mustard yellow raised damask backing just melts my heart every time I see it. It looks so cheerful and happy! And the texture of it is like butter. It's a really soft print that has a bit of velvet to the raised yellow portion.
Yes, folks, this is definitely a new favorite. But, you know the drill. I'm out of space in my modest-sized house, and I'm just too tired and pregnant right now to try to figure out how I can arrange the rest of my house to accommodate this one piece of furniture. (Umm... Yeah, I've done that before.) So it's up for the taking.
This charming two-piece hutch has been painted a striking semi-gloss black. It was then moderately distressed to accentuate the sharp, contemporary lines of the piece. The backing was recovered with a mustard yellow raised damask print that uniquely sets it apart from any other piece. It has one light in the top in full working condition, as well as two sturdy glass shelves. It would be an excellent way to display one's favorite dishes and nick knacks, or could even be repurposed as a bookcase. It measures 60" wide x 20" deep x 80" high. $395. Local pick up in Mesa, AZ only. Cash or credit/debit* accepted. Email fivetoninefurnishings@yahoo.com.

(*All credit/debit transactions will be charged a 3% fee.)
