I decided to keep the hardware. I just finished painting and distressing that, and it looks really great, so the base is all done except for re-attaching the hardware. The top is coming along, but a little slower than I had planned. You can see it peeking out behind the base; I haven't even started painting the wainscoting yet, but I'm hoping another couple hours will do the trick. It's amazing how much I can accomplish without a three year-old "helping" me.
