Before and After: Another Black Bench

Remember a few years ago in the 1990s when this pine wood was really popular? My parents went out and bought me the matching pine set, and I thought it was so classy. Flash forward about 10 years and that same set is now in my son's room, and I'm trying to figure out a solution to it. The actual structure of the furniture has a lot of potential; I'm just kind of sick of the pine look. See for yourself:

Certainly not horrifying, but not my style anymore. So when I came across an identical headboard and footboard set on Craig's List (except a single instead of a double), I figured I'd experiment with it to see if I should do my son's the same way. Instead of keeping it a headboard and footboard like this:

I made it into a bench like this: (Well, let's be honest; my sweet husband made it, and I just painted it.)

And of course added a scroll, because I just can't help myself.

I just did a light distressing because that's all it seemed to need. (My sister would argue; she thinks I distress too much.)

And there you have it, folks. This striking black bench was handcrafted from a repurposed headboard and footboard. It has been painted a flat black and then lightly distressed to show off the beautiful curves and lines. The dimensions are 46" high x 46" long x 24" deep. $135. Local pickup only. Delivery available upon request for an additional fee. Email fivetoninefurnishings@yahoo.com.
